Sønderho is one of Denmark's best-preserved historic towns. Here, the crooked streets and intimate atmosphere take you back to the time when Fanø was an island of fishermen and seafarers. To the south and east of the town be found a broad, white, sandy beach, which is regarded as one of Denmark's best. Here you can enjoy the sight of seals basking on the North Sea sandbanks. A cycling or walking trip in the countryside around Nordby, which is famed for its wild herbs used to flavour snaps, is also a popular option. On the mainland, the port city of Esbjerg is also well worth a visit. Attractions include the Fisheries and Maritime Museum with its fascinating aquariums, 'sealarium' and other temporary exhibits.
