The Neighborhood:
Although the self-contained villas are a nice resort, you are just minutes from civilization, so to speak, if you decide to leave and explore this beautiful ancient island. Kea is one of the quieter and unspoiled Greek islands, not suffering from vast hordes of tourists or international fame.

The nearest beach is just a few minutes away by car as is the pedestrian-only village of Ioulis. (The island is said to produce some of the best honey in Greece.)

The village sits on a slope (be prepared to walk and climb some stairs throughout the village). Its streets are literally a charming maze of pedestrian streets and charming alleyways. There are several village squares with restaurants and cafes, frequented by both locals and Athenian and international tourists. You'll likely find the village - and the entire island, for that matter - less busy than other Greek islands.

There are no cars to dodge, only donkeys as they deliver goods to the businesses. You'll park at the village gate if you've driven, or a bus or taxi will drop you off there.

The Kastro area of the town to the west is the oldest section with the ancient fortifications, an acropolis, and the remains of a Venetian wall The Church of Agia Paraskevi is built inside a cave.

The island's Archaeological Museum is considered one of the best of the Cyclades.
Getting Around:
Beaches:
The pristine coastline of Kea offers ample opportunity to visit some unspoiled beaches. Calm bays and deep blue waters are a draw for visitors. Just a few of the more secluded beaches to visit: Liparo, Kaliskia, Sygkamia, Spathi, and Sygkamia. The more visited beaches with services include: Otzias, Koundouros, Ksyla, Piisses and Gialiskari. Many of these will offer jet-skiing, wind and kite surfing, kite surf. There is also scuba diving available. Koundouraki Beach on the southwest part of the island, in particular, offers a range of water sports! Water skiing, canoeing, wake-boarding, paddle-boarding, ski biking are some of the activities available.

Hiking:
There are over 36 km (22 miles) of hiking paths or trails, many of which were created in ancient days as a part of the network of roads that connected the settlements. Hiking trails are designated by white-red signs.
