Rumtek Monastery - Also called the Dharmachakra Centre, Rumtek Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in the Indian state of Sikkim near the capital, Gangtok. It is a focal point for the sectarian tensions that characterize the Karmapa Controversy.

Himalayan Zoological Park - This park exhibits a wide species of Himalayan fauna like the black beer, barking deer, snow leopard, civet cat, red pandas and the spotted deer.

Nathula - It is the Indo – China trade route (mountain pass) situated about 56 km from Gangtok at an altitude of about 14,200 ft and is covered with rich varieties of alpine flora and fauna. It is a calm place to visit and is open only for Indian Nationals.

Ganesh Tok - Ganesh Tok is a temple of Hindu God called Ganesha and is situated near the Sikkim Government nursery in East Sikkim on a small hillock on Gangtok-Nathula Road.

Tsomgo Lake (Popularly known as Chhangu Lake) - Situated at an altitude of 12,000 ft. on the Gangtok-Nathu-La highway about 40 kms away from Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake is known as “source of the lakes”. It falls within the restricted area of Indian Army; hence an inner line permit is required for all Indians to visit this place where as Foreign nationals are permitted to Changu Lake and Baba Mandir. However, it is mandatory to have 2 foreign nationals plus one Govt. authorised guide accompanying them.The lake is considered sacred by the local people & a home of Ruddy Shelduck (Brahminy ducks). Even during May and August, it is possible to see a variety of flowers in blooms, including the rhododendrons, various species of primulas, blue and yellow poppies, irises etc.. It is also an ideal habitat for the Red Panda.

Temi Tea Garden - Temi Tea Garden was established in 1969. The total area of the Temi Tea garden is approximately 435 acres. The garden employs about 450 people and produces 100 matric ton of orthodox tea annually. The garden produces some of the best teas in the world. The garden offers beautiful natural views. The picturesque view of tea plucking can be seen here during the plucking season. The factory can be visited to have an interesting lesson on tea processing.

Hanuman Tok - Hanuman Tok is one of the most important places to see in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is one of the most renowned temples of the state. The Hanuman Tok at Sikkim is dedicated to Hanuman, one of the gods in the Hindu religion.The temple of Hanuman Tok is looked after by a division of the army department of India. The Hanuman Tok in Sikkim itself provides wonderful photographic views of the Khangcendzonga. The snow-capped mountain peaks look heavenly from this temple.

Tashi View Point - The Tashi View Point of Sikkim is famous among the tourists who visit Sikkim, because it offers a wonderful view of the Mt. Khangchendzonga and other neighboring hills. The monasteries of Labrang and Phodong are located nearby on a hill close to the Mt. Khangchendzonga. Mt. Sinilochu is one of the mountains located nearby.

Banjhakri Waterfalls - Banjhakri Waterfalls lies amidst a lush green valley spread over nearly 2 acres and is quite nice and popular among tourist. It is surrounded by trees and gushing mountain stream. The Park has a Shamanistic theme. Hence, while the location of the park penetrating the forest spreads and seeks to enhance the essence of the occult and the unknown. The place itself is littered with ethnic sculptures and figurines of the Jhakri culture.

Ropeway - Only one of its kind in this region and is still in operation. It takes the passenger to the highest point of the city of Gangtok covering the distance of about on1km in only seven minutes. The lower terminal station is located at Deorali Market, the intermediate terminal at Nam Nang and the upper terminal station is below Secretariat (Tashiling). One can truly enjoy the panoramic view as the Ropeway goes over the City.

Institute of Tibetology - The main attraction here is the museum which houses around large number of Buddhist icons, antique paintings, thangkas, statues, shrines, tapestries, masks and other religious works of Tibetan Art. Moreover, the place also boasts of having more xylographs and has the translation of Buddha’s original teachings by eminent scholars from all over the world.

DO Drul Chorten - DO Drul Chorten has been built in the year 1945 under the supervision of late Truslshi Rimpoche. There are more than hundred prayer wheels (Mani-Lhakor) in this chorten. There are some mantras have been engraved in these prayer wheels; by turning these prayer wheels, the devotees can read and chant these mantras. The renowned chorten has a gold-plated steeple.

MG Marg - Set in the heart of the city is the most happening place in Gangtok . A total free vehicle road with many eateries and shops on both sides, this place is ideal for spending time with friends and family especially in the evening. In fact, a perfect place for shopping while in Gangtok.

Handloom Center - Handloom Center was founded in 1957, as Handloom and Handicrafts Centre of Sikkim. In this centre, the visitors can see blankets, elegant hand-carve folding tables (Choktse), hand-loomed carpets with conventional themes, hand-painted masques, shawls, traditional paintings, wooden dolls and many other handicrafts.

This is a great place to stay in Gangtok. Mrs and Dr Pradhan, who run the place, are a lovely couple, and we thoroughly enjoyed staying with them, Great stay, good food, and I can't recommend this place highly enough.
