This Villa is an evocatively restored colonial villa nestled within the verdant hinterland of Galle. Home to five cosy bedrooms and ample living and dining areas, the villa is extremely spacious and wrapped by an extensive flower-filled tropical garden featuring lush lawns and a pretty sun-dappled swimming pool. Period features and striking antiques characterise this former manor house whose colour-stained interior walls have been carefully preserved for posterity.
The villa is very family friendly, and kids will love the dedicated playroom stuffed with toys and games. There are no TVs in the villa, however there is a library brandishing an enviable collection of books to sink into. Guests are looked after by a discreet staff team who prepare all meals and keep the villa clean and secure. Provisions for food and drinks are charged at cost price.
Rooms
The villa’s five fan-cooled bedrooms are spread across two floors and feature four-poster beds draped in mosquito netting, plus wardrobes and garden views. On the ground floor are two doubles, which share a bathroom, plus a small single room with attached bathroom that’s ideal for sleeping a child. A staircase leads up to the first floor where there’s a child-friendly twin bedroom with open plan bathroom, and a third double with a big bathroom and garden-view roof terrace.
The living and dining areas are all on the ground floor. These include an open sided dining area with long antique table for 12, a breezy veranda overlooking the swimming pool, and a spacious fan-cooled lounge furnished with sofas, books and antiques. A kid’s playroom is located beyond the lounge, and towards the rear of the villa are an equipped kitchen, an informal dining area and a simple freestanding sixth bedroom (with bathroom), suitable for a nanny or a driver.
Location
Encircled by paddy fields and coconut palms, the villa is situated in the rural village of Pilana, 7km from Galle. Within walking distance is the ancient Buddhist temple of Pilana that sits prettily atop a mound surrounded by paddy fields. You can explore Galle’s hinterland by bicycle from here or for more relaxed pursuits, Galle Fort and a string of beautiful sandy beaches are a 15-minute drive away.
