The house is typically Portuguese, built of embedded stone wall construction and is over 300 years old.
The accommodation is split into two separate appartments – the ground and the 1st floor. Both have the option to rent the rooms at loft level.
The potograph sequence up to the carparking area shows the accommodation on the ground floor and beyond the photo of the carparking photo portrays the accommodation on the first floor.
The pool, garden, barbecue and parking are shared by all guests.
The archway follows the length of the terraces where the cereals used to be dried and cover the old workshop where the candles were made - the century-old household family business waiting to be revived.
At ground level the accommodation takes in the pool - the old threshing floor - and its black schist stone was re-used to make up the flooring to the swimming pool shower area, external toilets, barbecue area, the ramps for disabled people up to the car park - which takes up to seven cars or a couple of large caravans.
The barbecues are one in-built and for smaller parties and two portable ones catering up to 100 people. So, you can celebrate here.
The living accommodation at this level is comprised of five double bedrooms with bathrooms en-suite, and a sixth double bedroom with a separate bathroom, accessible to wheel chairs.
It also has separate seating and working areas, spread out across the house, where you can watch Tv, work on your computer, or simply lie on a hammock and read a book.
The kitchen is new and it was built by the arches once the wood store, so you can be doing the washing-up with a lovely view down the arcade.
On the first floor, there is another appartment with a set of bedrooms which are rented separately with its own entrance. They comprise the old house master bedroom, with original vintage period furniture and an en suite bathroom fitted on to an old west facing veranda and four more bedrooms with two shared bathrooms.
It also has a kitchen and living areas comprised of two seating separate areas taking up the rest of the first floor.
You have to climb up some steep steps to reach the loft - the children's favorite place - where you will find three single beds in two bedrooms and two double bedrooms.
The loft has a shared bathroom with shower and a separate w. c. with wash-hand basin and views over the back garden and village.
These set of bedrooms can be hired separately by guests on the ground floor or on the first floor.
The house is situated at the bottom of the Poiares valley and its Portuguese name is "casa dos Arcos" - the House of the Arches - on Chapel Square in Venda Nova.
There you can find the original chapel of the house, with ax marks on its main door, legend has it from the Napoleonic soldiers invasion in the 18th century and on the other side, the villagers erected their own chapel last century.
Its bells start chiming at 7am and finish at 9pm. You soon get used to them but they might wake you the first day and give you a chance for an early dip before you set out for the day.
