Experience the genuine Provence with good food and wine, swimming, bicycling, walking or hiking in the peaceful and fertile inland. It is hard to believe you are just a short distance away from the pulsating, jetset life and shopping eldorado along the Cote D’azur, which is quite a contrast to the tranquillity of lazy days lounging around the pool or strolling around in the large, charming garden that lies like a hidden gem in the middle of the village.
The Manor:
Lou Marronié is located in the village, only a two-minute walk from the charming town square which is the local, social meeting place. The house is a 750 m2 manor. It was built in 1790, and restored with great care and consideration in 2007/2008. The original charm has been kept intact while providing all comfort and every amenity to be expected in a modern residence.
On the first floor (rez-de-chausses) you will find the hallway, living room / dining room / library and a spacious and charming provincial kitchen with all facilities: two stoves, open fireplace with possibility to grill, two refrigerators, espresso machine, etc. A scullery with two dishwashers contributes even further to a comfortable and practical stay.
The pleasant area outside the kitchen, under the enormous horse chestnut tree, may seat twenty-four persons around smaller tables.
The four-story house has 13 bedrooms and sleeps 25 adults, but is rented out to a maximum of 16 persons. Most of the bedrooms are on the second and third floors. This includes four suites with ten bedrooms and six bathrooms altogether. One of the bedrooms on the second floor may easily serve as an additional living room if so desired.
On the fourth floor there is a separate apartment equipped for six persons. This includes three bedrooms, one large bathroom and combined kitchen/living room. The apartment is tastefully decorated in provençal farm style with beamed ceilings and stone walls. On this floor you will also find a large activity room that may be used as a conference room. This room includes billiard/table tennis/conference table, various games, Playstation 3, Tv, Dvd/cd, football game, darts, as well as a screen and video projector suited for conferences.
Technical facilities: A new, environmentally friendly heating pump facility has been installed. This facility ensures efficient heating throughout the large house during the cooler months, and provides ample hot water as well. Air condition has been installed on the fourth floor. In the rest of the house, thick concrete walls and window shutters provide comfortable night temperatures even during the hottest summer months. Wireless broadband is also available. Garden: It comes as a wonderful surprise to all who visit us that a house with a central village location has such a large and private garden. It is a wonderful experience to explore the garden with all its Mediterranean plants. Enjoy a quiet moment on one of the benches, and simply take in the the sights, sounds and aroma of this flowering abundance.
Seeing is believing!
The garden, originally from 1790, has been restored and upgraded with great consideration. The grounds consist of an idyllic, terraced 2,6 acre garden with grape vines, olive trees, fruit trees, old rose bushes and other typical regional plants such as lavender. A herb garden is conveniently located next to the summer kitchen.
The 12,5 x 5 meter salt water swimming pool has been built into one of the garden terraces. The original ”pool” was used for washing clothes, and now serves as a fish pond (carp) with a stream of water cascading from the stone wall into the pond.
Our private ”boules” court is placed on another of the old terraces. Here you may also enjoy table tennis on the table available for outside use.
The entire garden is discretely illuminated at night, and the automatic watering system ensures that you wake up to a green and lush garden. Our gardeners ensure that the gardens are kept groomed and trimmed.
Enjoy a stroll in the garden along the pathways, under the bowed passageways, or simply rest in the shade of the trees.
Summer Kitchen:
A charming stone house has been converted into a summer kitchen. The covered eating area outside, overlooking the pool area, seats 20 persons. Inside the stone house you will find a rustic bar and well equipped kitchen with modern facilities including two dishwashers. Food may be prepared outside on a large Weber gas grill with stove top. Set the tables for lunch and dinner with local delicacies, while enjoying the view of the gardens and the village rooftops.
What better place for a get-together over a glass of refreshing rosé wine from one of our local producers, while you let yourself get swept away by the warm sun setting over Provence, and later by the illuminated troglodyte cliff “le Rocher” forming a magical backdrop to the gardens.
Surrounding Area:
Within a radius of 5 – 20 kilometers from Cotignac you will find several other villages worth a visit. Among these are Carces, Montfort, Salernes and Lorgues. You will find all kinds of markets, a wide selection of restaurants as well as other services and points of interest (kart; se linker). The surrounding area provide a wide range of sights and activities, catering to different interests. There are seemingly endless possibilities for walks, hikes or bicycling through olive groves and vineyards.
Cotignac has its own tennis club, and golf enthusiasts will also have a chance to play some rounds in the Var-region. Golf Barbaroux has an idyllic location outside Brignole, approximately 25 minutes from Cotignac. This is a challenging course that has been selected as one of the top five golf courses in France.
