1) Copacabana beach. There are historic forts at both ends of Copacabana beach; Fort Copacabana, built in 1914, is at the south end by Posto Seis and Fort Duque de Caxias, built in 1779, at the north end. There are bars and night clubs.
Copacabana Beach plays host to millions of revellers during the annual New Year's Eve celebrations and, in most years, has been the official venue of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
This beach is also the venue where Usain Bolt will attempt to beat the 150m world record.

2) Sugar Loaf Mountain is a must visit where some of the best views in the city can be taken in. From there, you can see Copacabana Beach and a great view of the Atlantic with islands. Sugar loaf is just 12 mins from Copacabana.

3)Another attraction worth seeing is the lavish 1909 Teatro Municipal, filled with gilded mirrors, statues, murals, stained-glass windows and sparkling chandeliers (9 mins from copacabana)

4) Morro da Urca - This is the first hill up on the way to Rio's famous Sugar Loaf. It offers its own marvelous view from the top (215 meters) but its base is also a good place for hiking (approx 10 mins from copacabana )

5) Cristo Redentor (Statue of Christ the Redeemer) - The staggering monument overlooks the city and provides a curious sense of pastoral protection whenever and wherever you are out and about in the city and its sweltering climate! Sublime. (approx 28-30 mins from copacabana)

6) If you like adventure this is the place - PEDRA DA GAVEA - Just go and climb this amazing mountain peak but with experienced guide. Located in between Barra and Rio, the mountain range is one of the main attractions in Rio and is considered to be the highest Oceanside view in the world. Unlike other peaks, there is no cable car or bus to take you up. So be careful while climbing if you are into such things for the first time. Consider going here on a sunny day to have a nice view of beach and to watch stunts by hang gliders. (approx 25 - 30 mins)
