Set between the Basse and Moyenne Corniches, in a beautifully landscaped garden setting, within a secure and highly sought after block, this 1 bedroom apartment sits above Villefranche sur Mer and is just 10 minutes from the bustle of Nice. Inside, this spacious, light and bright apartment, benefits from a recent high quality refurbishment and is appointed with top of the range Italian furniture, fixtures and fittings. From a large terrace and from each of the living rooms there is ample space for al fresco dining and the views over Villefranche, Beaulieu, St Jean, Cap Ferrat, are just breathtaking. There is a dedicated parking garage in the basement. While a car is useful, for those who enjoy walking there are pleasant footpaths leading down to the waterfront restaurants of Villefranche sur Mer, beaches, harbour etc and up to the shops of Col de Villefranche. There is easy bus and train access to nearby Eze, Monaco and Nice and to more distant destinations such as Menton and Antibes.

General: There are regular markets in the nearby villages of Villefranche, Beaulieu and of course Nice has a world renowned fruit and vegetable market and regular antique markets. Nice also has a wealth of museums, art galleries and an excellent opera house. There are the varied attractions from the Menton music festival to the Monaco Grand Prix, to the film festival in Cannes. For those interested in sailing there are regular yachting regattas in Antibes, Cannes and Monaco. Coastal paths from Villefranche through Beaulieu and St Jean, and then around Cap Ferrat provide wonderful scope for most enjoyable walks with lots of world renowned restaurants and bars making pleasant stopovers. In Villefranche itself quayside restaurants mingle with the colours of local fishing boats and nets. Little wonder it continues to be a favourite with so many artists, writers and other discerning aesthetes.

Special Attractions: There are frequent sailing regattas, including some wonderful events bringing together classic yachts from around the world. For those interested in antiques there are around the old port of Nice any number of excellent galleries and markets, and Villefranche hosts a weekly open air antique market on the waterfront. For those who love music there are regular internationally renowned music festivals along the Riviera, and of course there are the special attractions of the Monaco Grand Prix, the Canne Film Festival, and any number of other sporting and cultural events.

Jardin de Villefranche is possibly one of the most charming villages in the area between Nice and Monaco. It offers views to die for and is remote from any of the hustle and bustle of main roads making it a perfect place to enjoy the level of tranquility that is becoming increasingly difficult to find - one even becomes aware if someone is using a lawn mower kilometres distant. It has vast well kept gardens (that incidentally make the service charges very high!) within securely gated grounds. Sitting on the terrace in the evenings you can take-in the wonderful aromas of nearby pines, jasmin and other prolific plants in almost perfect peace and quiet.

Bit about us: Late evening some 20 years ago while sailing the South Coast of France I had the pleasure of dropping anchor at the head of the Rade du Villefanche. As the lights came on around the bay it was if one had entered an vast amphitheatre - truly magic. Returning a few years later I could not resist the temptation of purchasing just one of those spectacular lights so that we are now able to enjoy in a more leisurely way the reverse sight of all the little yachts bobbing away in the harbour below.

I (jim, writing this) am a retired professor of engineering (well not really, all that has changed is the salary cheques have stopped!) having spent the greater part of my career at University College London. Having grown up in New Zealand I came to the Uk some 50 years ago to pursue what should have been a 2 possibly 3 years post-doctoral research fellowship at Ucl. It was when my children were growing up that to stem the yearning to return to Aotearoa to see them experience the sort of outdoor childhood I had enjoyed we purchased a caravan on the S coast of England. There we accumulated a fleet of sailing boats of all shapes and sizes. Now that the children have long since moved on our fleet has vanished but I still enjoy sailing in my leisure time - although our modest little sailing yacht is now located in southern Calabria from where we can enjoy Sicily and the Aeloian islands - but it is a bit more difficult to reach!

My wife Patricia is actually a Londoner - yes there are still a few. She spent her professional life in the charity sector and prior to retirement was International Director at Marie Stopes, and played a major role in seeing what had been a network of Family Planning clinics in the Uk become an international network of clinics dedicated to improving women and children health and education. We both enjoy travelling but also the delights of being with our now 12 grandchildren.

Why are we letting? Because of our increasing grandparental roles we don't get down to Villefranche as much as we would like. So we have been pleased to be able to share our apartment and our love of this part of the world with so many guests over the past 15 years - many of whom have come back year after year. We think you will also enjoy the oportunity to share the wonderful outlooks over the Rade of Villefranche. The views from the apartment are really those of the classic Riviera scene. The tour coaches travelling around the Moyenne Cornich (just above the apartment) stop to allow sightseers an opportunity to take in the breathtaking beauty - usually with their cameras. Here is a chance for you to sit at your leisure and enjoy the same views over a cool glass of wine and a lovely home cooked meal.
We offer free Wifi during your stay!
