Nainital Nainital is a glittering jewel in the Himalyan necklace, blessed with scenic natural spledour and varied natural resources . Dotted with lakes , Nainital has earned the epithet of ' Lake District ' of India . The most prominent of the lakes is Naini lake ringed by hills . Nainital has a varied topography . Some of the important places in the district are Nainital , Haldwani , Kaladhungi , Ramnagar , Bhowali , Ramgarh , Mukteshwar , Bhimtal , Sattal and Naukuchiatal . Nainital’s unending expense of scenic beauty is nothing short of a romance with awe-inspiring and pristine Mother nature. Bhimtal Bhimtal is an ancient place named after Bhima of Mahabharata. Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple, an old Shiva temple on the bansk of Bhimtal Lake, is believed to have been built when Bhima visited the place during the banishment period of Pandavas. Bhimtal is older than nearby Nainital, as the city of Nainital is just 150–160 years old. But Bhimtal has been a stoppage for the travellers of the region from hills to plains or vice versa for a long time. Bhimtal has a island in the center approached only by a boat and at present it has an aquarium there. A variety of fish from countries like South Africa, Mexico and China have been kept in the aquarium that are captivating tourists attention.A gaggle of ducks have made the lake pleasant cottage their home and give company to the lake pleasant cottage visitors.
