Georgioupoli, is a tourist resort located 38km east of Chania and 21km west of Rethymnon. It is a small seaside town, built in a green plain, full of rivers and springs. The river Almyros flows through the city, and end's up to the Cretan sea, at that point a very important habitat is formed, named as "Almyros Swamp". However, the trademark of the city is the large pier that starts from the port and ends at a small square, where the magnificent white chapel of Agios Nikolaos is built. The Church seems to be floating in the sea. Where the prefecture of Rethymno ends and the prefecture of Chania begins, in Georgioupolis and Episkopi, we meet the large beach of Kavros. Kavros, in this agricultural land which is no longer cultivated, and has become an area with tourist infrastructure, with the residents to welcome the visitors, who can enjoy their vacation in miles of sandy beach.
