Whatever the season, Fanø's countryside is always both attractive and alluring. The landscape is made up of dunes, heathland, meadows and small areas of woodland, while a 17 km-long sandy beach - up to two kilometres wide in places and characterised by dune formations - runs along the west coast of the island. Fanø is also known for its cobbled streets and thatched houses as well as its local museums and preserved buildings such as Sønderho Mill, which dates back to 1895. Golfers are well served by an attractive seaside course located near Nordby. Other activities on offer include riding, windsurfing and cycling.
