Cottage Room A/C stay - Lakeside Guesthouse

Built at the end of the 1980’s this beautiful homestay nestles on the shores of Kamarajar Dam with stunning views of the lake and the lower foothills of the Western Ghats.

The uniquely designed main building with its open central living area draws cooling breezes from the lake making this a pleasant environment in which to relax and enjoy the peace and seclusion of this hidden gem. Four twin rooms open out onto the veranda whilst five cottages are dotted around the 4.5 acres of landscaped gardens. Each cottage has an open-plan living/ sleeping area and its own private balcony with lake view. Some of the rooms and cottages are air-conditioned adding to the choice available to guests (at extra cost)*. All accommodation has western style bathrooms and the property is kept to high European standards by the English owners and their well-trained local staff who unobtrusively cater to your needs.

The homestay has a growing reputation in the area for fine food ranging from continental buffet breakfast served on the veranda to dinner on the roof terrace with views of the lake and also the Reserve Forest which sweeps down to the boundary of the property. With the Reserve Forest and also our own undeveloped three acres which have been left for the 'local inhabitants' it is not unusual to spot mongoose, hare, wild boar and a variety of deer, but the real draw for lovers of wildlife are the birds of which there are around 200 species (both resident and migratory) in the valley.

If feeling energetic guests can take a dip in our swimming pool, play table tennis, or maybe take a walk or hire bicycles to explore the local area with its abundance of coconut and mango orchards. If the preference is for 'doing nothing' then there are shady seating areas where one can read (there is also a small library if you should finish your reading matter!), or a TV room where you can catch up on the world news - it is all too easy to lose track of time and what is going on in the rest of the world in this secluded environment.

Whatever your choice, with 7.5 acres, rarely more than a dozen guests and no children under 5 you can be sure of peace and seclusion along with excellent service at the homestay.

Just one hour's drive from Madurai, this homestay is the perfect place to make a break in an extended tour of south India. Many guests enjoy taking one or more of our excursions and our 10 day holiday is proving increasingly popular with foreign tourists who want to see the 'real India' far away from the usual tourist centres.
