We welcome you to the villa of Europe in Rethymno!
It is an autonomous building that consists of 2 separate residences of 200 sq.m. Total 400 sqm with shared pool.
The houses are identical.
Each residence consists of two floors .
The ground floor consists of 4 bedrooms, the central one is 32 sqm with its own living room and bathroom, the next two with a double bed each and a bathroom. There is also a laundry room as well as a kitchenette that serves the needs of the pool.

Αll rooms have autonomous heating and air conditioning.
The floor consists of a living room with an open fireplace and perimeter terraces with views.
Dining room, fully equipped kitchen and veranda overlooking the pool and the nature as well as one wc.
On the terraces there are outdoor living and dining with umbrellas to enjoy each time separately.
At the pool area you will find loungers for sunbathing and barbecue for your little party.
The pool is 25 sqm.
Car rental is essential.

The Abduction of Europa
The beauty of any mortal would quickly become known to one or more deities in the Greek pantheon, and from his throne of Mount Olympus, it was Zeus who first spied the beautiful Europa.

Despite being married at that time to the goddess Hera, Zeus was overwhelmed with desire for the princess of Tyre. Acting on his desire, Zeus transformed himself into a magnificent white bull and transported himself to Tyre.

Europa and her attendants were down by the shore gathering flowers when the white bull wandered up to them. Zeus made sure that the bull appeared totally tame, and he laid down at the feet of Europa. Initially, a little bit scared, Europa would eventually start to place flowers upon the white bull, before eventually deciding that the bull was tame enough for her to sit upon.

That was of course just what Zeus wanted, and with Europa on his back he entered the water and swam off into the sea. Europa was too frightened to jump off, and eventually, Zeus and Europa arrive on the shores of Crete.

Zeus then reveals himself to Europa and transforms into human form. Europa then readily agrees to be his lover beneath a cypress tree, and from the coupling, three sons were born, Minos, Rhadamanthys, and Sarpedon.

Zeus then left Europa on Crete, rather than returning her to tyre. Europa though prospered on Crete and married the Cretan king, Asterion Europa becoming the first Queen of Crete.

Location
The settlement of Gallou is a semi-mountain village in the prefecture of Rethymno with lush vegetation throughout the year located approximately 6 km southwest of the city of Rethymno.

It is not quite known where the Gallou settlement took its name from, but there are several unconfirmed versions. One of them says that the village was named after Major Valestra, the French Philhellene, who in 1822 participated in a battle that took place nearby between the Cretan revolutionaries and the besieged in the Fortezza fortress Turks and was killed. Valestra was buried in the village.

Another version speaks about the old church of Panagia of Galou or Galatou, which was called so because, according to a tradition, for its construction milk was used instead of water.

Finally, there is a version that the name of the settlement came from a Venetian great landlord called Gallos, who lived in the area. Indeed, the village was referred to as «galloy» by Fr. Barozzi in 1577, by Kastrofylakas in 1583, by Basilikata in 1630 and by M. Coronelli in 1696.

In 1821 the villagers had been fighting the Turks for three days in this region and won, while in 1872 the Gallou settlement was granted by the Turks to the interpreter Andreas Miliotis as a gift for the provided services.

In the settlement of Gallou, which has been declared traditional since 1995, there are supermarkets, sports facilities, the National Stadium of Rethymno, municipal tennis courts, taverns with traditional Cretan cuisine, cafeterias and newly built residences for students, since 200 meters away there is the University of Crete.

Other important attractions of the village are the monastery of Agios Pavlos built in 1566, the church of Panagia Gallou with its icon of Christ upon the Throne, the church of Agios Georgios built in the 18th century, the church of Agios Loukas, of Agios Antonios and of Agios Charalampos.

For nature lovers, the Galliano gorge is a perfect hiking route along the verdant banks of the ravine, while the oak forest of Kastello, part of which lies in the Gallou settlement, is of an extreme beauty.
