The wetland of Botofte Skovmose in this tranquil region was brought back to nature by the Danish government as part of a rehabilitation project. A 36- hectare large lake, wetlands of size 16 hectares and meadows of approximately 13 hectares were created through such projects in order to preserve the important landscapes. The whole project covers an area of 70 hectares. These new wetlands improve the breeding and living conditions of many birds and animals in Botofte Skovmose. In doing so, special emphasis was given to migratory birds as it is an important route of migration which passes over Langeland.
