An undiscovered hideaway perfect for the summers. This is a century old house recently converted into a boutique lodge, 18km from Nainital in a village just off the main Kathgodam - Bhowali road in Uttrakhand . Set on a mountain spur with a 360 degree view of the valleys on both sides the lodge offers all modern amenities.
Each of the 4 suites and 3 rooms have an individual and warm appeal. The magnificent rafters, thick stone-walls, and old fireplaces create an air of serenity and antiquity. A book-filled reading lounge, a unique pool deck, great home cooked meals and an abundant bird life give the lodge a rare charm.
Legend envelops the place. It is said Gandhiji had tea here in 1936 on his way to the Bhowali sanatorium to see Kamala Nehru; and Jim Corbett was a friend of the lady of the house and often came visiting.
This is not a five-star hotel but it offers warm hospitality and an old world charm. It is a haven for intimate couples, large groups of friends, cosy families, and the solitary soul-seeker; for writers, artists, and star-gazers. Long hours can be spent absorbing the mountains and nature at different spots on the grounds. There are no TVs in rooms, but there is room service and round-the-clock assistance. A twelve-month destination, Gethia is famed for its mercurial weather – sun, rain, mists, and every other year snow. Each season conjures its magic here.
It is also the perfect nodal point to explore the Kumaon, to make day-long trips to Bhimtal, Nainital, Naukuchiyatal, Ranikhet, Almora, Kilbury, Pangot, Mukteshwar, Kaladungi, and to the site of some of the oldest Shiva temples in the world, Jaageshwar.
