Nutmeg stay - Cardamom House

House overlooks the monsoon dependent Kamarajar Lake. This family home stay nestles in the unbelievably beautiful foothills of the Western Ghats. It provides Western comforts in a rural setting.
Our staff are our greatest asset. They are here to welcome you and ensure that your stay is enjoyable. They are from local villages and have been trained ‘in house’. They are knowledgeable about local flora, fauna and traditions. They have worked together as a team for up to 18 years. Several of them have visited the U.K and all speak some English.

There are seven rooms. Our rooms are located in three separate cottages only a few metres apart from each other – named respectively, Cardamom Main House, Mountain House and Summit House. All houses have rooftop terraces for the guests to use.

All our rooms are deluxe, with Western-style bathrooms. For your comfort, all have pocket sprung modern mattresses. Five of the rooms have air-conditioning units. One room is a suite. All rooms have en suite western style shower/toilet with solar generated hot water and are tastefully designed and furnished . Free WIFI connection is available in the main living area. It can also be picked up in some other places around the house.

All our rooms are south facing and the rooms open out onto a verandah with views over the nearby lake and, not far away, the massive mountains.

Cardamom Main House has four rooms named after different Indian spices or herbs. Air-conditioning is available in these rooms. The verandahs overlook the gardens.
SAFFRON sleeps two with enough space for one extra bed for a child
CINNAMON sleeps two with enough space for one extra bed for a child
CORIANDER sleeps two
PEPPERCORN sleeps two
(NOTE: Saffron and Cinnamon have an interconnecting door and is ideal for two families)

Mountain House has two rooms. Both are named after spices. They are only a few steps away from the swimming pool. Air conditioning is not available here.
ALLSPICE sleeps two
NUTMEG sleeps two

Summit House
PONDICHERRY SUITE has two separate, interconnecting rooms – a bedroom with a double bed and a separate lounge. In these two rooms there is some interesting furniture dating back to Pondicherry’s French colonial times in. The bedroom is air-conditioned.
There is always a heavy demand for the suite. It is intended for use by a couple. Guests have access to the full verandah overlooking the swimming pool. There are two stairways leading down to it.

All rooms are deluxe and have ceiling fans. Five rooms have air conditioning. Free WIFI is available in the main living area. Minimum stay is 2 nights.
*Due to the highly irregular supply and fluctuating voltage of the mains current supplied by the Central Electricity Board, it is essential that we use our large (40,000 Watts) standby generator in order to provide power for the air-conditioning units. It is impractical to run this for 24 hours out of 24 as it needs to cool down and to be refuelled. In addition, being ecologically orientated, we do not wish to cause excessive damage to the Earth’s already fragile environment by unnecessarily burning fossil fuels. Therefore, we have adopted a policy of using air conditioning units only after dinner at night-time, when they are needed for a more comfortable sleep. This is approximately from 2100 to 0700hrs. If you select the air-conditioning option, please be sure that you are aware of these restrictions.

Your stay
We ask that guests stay for at least two nights. We have found that when people come for just one night, they generally arrive in the dark, awake to the beauty of the location, and are then frustrated because they do not have time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and environment, before setting off for their next destination.

If you wish to stay for more than seven nights, please contact us. We offer special rates for longer stays.
