San Andrea di Compito is a village 11km from the historic town of Lucca. The Cottage is completely private. San Andrea and its sister village Pieve di Compito are popular vacation destinations as they are the sites for the annual Camellia Festival, in March and April.
The villa gardens are open to the cottage visitors and offer a wonderful photo opportunity. From the first daffodils in January to the season's last mums, Il Rifugio gardens are almost always colorful and inviting..
A car is essential for exploring this very special part of Tuscany. From Pisa to the Italian Riviera coast; from Florence to Lucca; and everything in between, your days will be filled with wonderful adventure.
The village has an excellent restaurant...'Tre Tigli', a pizzeria with an attitude, featuring Tuscan specialties and the best pizzas around,
with draft beers , great wines, and delicious food.
This area of northern Tuscany is a good place to begin an Italian adventure.
Easy access to the major sights is a big plus...we're an hour from Florence, 15 minutes from Lucca, and a half hour ride from the Italian Riviera, with great swimming.
There are hill-top towns such as Vinci, where Leonardo was born, the must-see Leaning Tower in Pisa...well, the list goes on. Bill and John take delight in helping you plan your activities..
The owners, John and Bill, live very close by, and are always available to help with daily activity planning. We can usually be found working in the veggie and flower gardens across the lane from the Cottage. Guests are always welcome to try anything the gardens produce, including (in season) tomatoes, lettuces and other greens, and the many herbs to season their favorite Italian dishes.
Late Summer sees a zinnia and sunflower riot, ideal for cutting for the Cottage
vases.
